Thanks Betty!

Rudy Gatlin just sent this photo of his snappy traveling outfit from Las Vegas to Nashville today. And yes.....that really is his halo.

The Oct. 18 show at Schermerhorn Symphony Center for the Nashville Rescue Mission and hosted by The Gatlin Brothers, was great.  Rudy was MC and the Nashville Symphony plus the Gatlin Band backed up the singers. My first time doing Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues with a 64 piece band!  Incredible!

With former Statler Brother Jimmy Fortune.  Other people on the show included The Issacs, Mo Pitney, Clark Beckham, and the incredible voice of Teea Goans. Symphony conductor is Jim Gray.

Charlie’s 15 harmonicas he carries in a Walmart tackle box.

Very cool sharing a dressing room with Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie McCoy (over 13,000 recording sessions, musical director for 18 years on Hee Haw, and 35 solo albums. Greatest harmonica player ever). We had a great time!

The Opry promo

Off stage with surprise guest Merle Haggard. His first Opry appearance since 1966! The place went nuts!! And I hadn’t seen Merle since we did a New Years Eve gig in Lake Tahoe in the 80’s. By the way...he was still as good as it gets! What a night.

On stage at Grand Ole Opry on Oct. 17, taken from behind by Eddie Bayers (playing drums with one hand).

Favorite photo I took of Nita during the songwriter show at the Bluebonnet.

Good friend and great songwriter Don Schlitz (The Gambler, When You Say Nothing At All) at the Bluebonnet

On stage at Shroeder Hall, just before Johnny Rodriguez.

Shroeder Hall in Yoakum, TX- second oldest dance hall in Texas- where we did the show for The Bluebonnet.

At the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch Celebrity Golf classic Oct. 11 & 12 amusing the host, award winning songwriter Allen Shamblin. He wrote Miranda Lambert’s song of the year, “The House That Built Me”.

So then from LA to SD for 3 days then right back to LA for The Scott Medlock/Robby Kreigger Golf and Rock and Roll Show for St.Judes Hospital. Photos above: Had a great time meeting and performing on a show with Jack Black.. also with Terri Nunn from Berlin..old friend John O' Hurley dancing with the ladies backstage between silly selfies..guitar phenom Orianthi (Michael Jackson,Alice Cooper) in a guitar duel with Richie Sambora...then on Tues. the 18th green at Riviera CC with Lighting tech Ben Moffat plus Robby Kreigger and Dave Brock of The Doors. It's been a whirlwind last couple of weeks. Nita and I head out tomorrow in the am for Victoria, TX and The Bluebonnet Youth Ranch Benefit with golf and show. (photos to follow). Next: I'm off to Nashville, TN for The Grand Ole Opry Oct.17 then Music With A Mission on the 18th at The Schermerhorn with The Nashville Symphony and The Gatlin Bros.....stay tuned....

On Sept 27th at Riviera Country Club for Johnny Mathis' 80th surprise birthday party. ( 200 of us were waiting for him when he came off the golf course.) Photos above are: his incredible ice sculpture at the entrance .. his birthday cake and Mule Deer, Johnny and Robby Kriegger of The Doors. (Robby has been playing Riviera since he was 8!)

Spent Sept. 24-26 at Tinsley Isle on The San Juaquin River for St.Francis Yacht Club aboard my host Chris's boat, The Buccaneer. Had a great show night of the 25th.

It's almost time for #Music With a Mission! Join me as I perform at the beautiful @Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville. The event benefits @Nashville Rescue Mission and happens only once a year! I’m looking forward very much to being part of this concert. Learn more here: http://bit.ly/1FfF0gG

Wow...these T-Shirts are everywhere!

Worked with longtime friend Jimmie JJ Walker Saturday night at The Morongo in Cabazon, CA.  So great to see him... we could have talked for hours.  And we had an incredible show.

Mule Deer is off to Northern CA tomorrow (July 15) for 10 days of cigars, golf and shows with everyone from PGA’s Roger Maltbie and Ron Cerrudo to Kix Brooks, Eric Church, Jimmy Salestrom, Livingston Taylor, Zac Brown, and whoever else happens to show up.  What a wonderful life...I’m very blessed!

Ok Laurie...Here’s us in 1980.

And thanks friends, for all the nice messages!
Gary and Nita met on July 18, 1980, at the Festival In The Park in Spearfish, SD, founded by Nita’s mom, Lee Ervin.  She hired Gary, living in L.A., as the entertainment, and Nita was visiting from New York City.  They collided that evening after the show. (Gary’s road manager Barry Bookin was left abandoned at the Miller Ranch with Bruce and Lola for the next three days while Nita and Gary went off cavorting in the Black Hills) Here’s a recent photo of the Mule Deers and the original poster from 1980.

Just did an incredible birthday event at Mt. Vernon.  Fireworks on the Potomac...the whole nine yards.
The party was for Starkey Hearing Foundation Bill and Tani Austin’s son Brandon Sawalich.  Production manager Mike Grimm and I also ate and drank by the fireplace at Gadsby’s Tavern, where Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe hung out in the early 1800’s. Great time for a fanatical history buff like me!

Mule Deer was in Austin at The Long Center on June 13 with Johnny Mathis.  Old friends Bill and Lynne Kirchenbauer came to the show. Billy and Mule Deer go waaaaay back.

Amy Grant and Gary wave hi to Nita (in CA) from The Vinny tournament in Nashville.  The next night Gary was on The Opry, and next day recorded tracks with three members of the Opry band, Larry Paxton on bass, Danny Parks guitar and Eddie Bayers drums (and Randy Hart producer)

Grandson Alex graduated high school in CA. Nita, his dad Erik and brother Liam were there.  And his adorable girlfriend Jordyn.  Alex is 6’4”.  Gary was in Nashville, but Alex came to SD soon after to wear Gary out fishing non stop. (Mule Deer faking on step above to be same size).

Old friends at The Byron Nelson in Dallas 2 weeks ago.
Burton "Bubba" Gilliam, Mule Deer and Rudy Gatlin. It was wet!
My team tied for 5th.
Rudy along with brother Steve Gatlin plus me and Ray Benson from Asleep At The Wheel did a fun show that night.

My last appearance on The David Letterman Show - in the dressing room before going on.  Renee Zellweger and David on the TV monitor.

Nita, announcer Alan Kalter and I at David’s desk.  All gone now!  They didn’t waste any time tearing it all out!

So long Dave.  Boy, will we miss you!

Mule Deer will be playing in "The Clint" which is Clint's member/guest tournament at Tehama CC May 19-24 as Clint's partner.
On May 26 Mule Deer plays in The Byron Nelson Classic in Dallas Texas and performs that evening with Rudy Gatlin and friends.
On May 27 it's off to Wisconsin for 2 shows with Johnny Mathis in Milwaukee and Appleton then on to Nashville for show with Vince Gill on 3.
Then on June 1 a PGA pro am at Golf Club of Tennessee and .June 2 Mule Deer on The Grand Ole Opry while Nita heads to San Diego for grandson Alex' high school graduation! Whew!
